Question by Carls J: Can anyone direct me as to how I go about obtaining a power of attorney for my mother who lives in Guatemala?
I want to bring my minor son into the states and cannot be present in Guatemala to secure a passport for him. I’ve been told that I need to give my mother power of attorney over my son so that she may help secure the visa. How can I do this?
If I could afford an attorney, do you think I would be on yahoo answers???

Go to a lawyer and have one drawn up for you, cost about 0.
Sorry, but due to the complications thats the only way your going to get your POA.
What do you think? Answer below!

In the US, you need to file a power of attorney form with the relevant jurisdiction. You should get the number of the local government in Guatemala where your mother lives. They’ll be able to tell you more and probably send or tell you where to get the form (it may even be on the internet). Then you just sign the form and file it. Good luck!
Start by hiring a lawyer here and there. Have your atty draw up the POA and send it there.
