I have heard there are some websites out there that let you text internationally from your computer for free. The problem is none of these seem to do so for Guatemala. Does anyone know of any such websites?

Yes, but I don’t know which company is your friend using in Guatemala.
Try www.telgua.com and then clic on “envia tus mensajes claro”
or www.tigo.com.gt and then clic on “envia tus mensajes desde la web”
