Mystery, Giant sinkhole swallows building in Guatemala

Number of people killed by rains in Central America stands at 175. Images taken on Tuesday, ugly (1) show a hole 60 meters deep and 20 meters in diameter, which opened in the center of Guatemala City after heavy rains caused by Tropical Storm Agatha. The hole swallowed a three-storey building and a whole corner. It is believed that a bouncer who worked at the site may have died. A worker who works around the region, José Aguilar, said nobody could have foreseen what happened. “Nobody can be guilty and you know that when it rains, these things happen,” he said. In 2007, three people died in a similar crater in the neighborhood of San Antonio, also in central capital. The death toll from rains caused by Agatha reaches at least 175 in Central America – 152 in Guatemala itself, September 14 in El Salvador and Honduras.
